Manila, Sept 22: Three tourists and a local woman have been kidnapped from a tourist resort in Philippines, media reported on Tuesday.

Two Canadians, a Norwegian and a local woman were abducted by gunmen from the Holiday Oceanview resort on Samal Island, near Davao City on Mindanao in southern Philippines late Monday, reported BBC citing an army spokesman.

It appears a targeted kidnapping rather than a random pick.

The Canadians abductees have been identified as John Ridsel and Robert Hall and Norwegian has been identified as Kjartan Sekkingstad.

The Norwegian abductees was said to be the manager of the resort while the identity of the Filipino woman has not been identified.

Since the 1990s the southern Philippines has seen sporadic incidents of kidnapping by Muslim militant groups, who hold hostages for ransom.

A peace agreement was signed between Muslim rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Philippine authorities in 2004. Even after agreement sporadic incidents continue to be reported from southern Philippines.
