The next 9/11 is just round the corner and this time on cyber space
The next 9/11 is around the corner and this time it would be on the cyber space. The warning comes a few days after experts said that the US networks were vulnerable to hacking and all out attacks.
Lars Hilse, a digital tech expert warned that power grids, water supplies and electricity could be cut off by cyber terrorists.
In March 2015, there was a physical attack by the cyber caliphate in which 11 satellite TV stations were taken down. "With the ever-increasing complexity of our operating systems, the likelihood of network-connected infrastructure such as power, electricity and water supply is open to attack by cyber hackers," he said.
With this entire infrastructure being so vulnerable, it is just a matter of time before somebody has a clever idea to take it all out, he also said. It may be recalled that Mike Wallace a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council had said, " we are in a pre- 9/11 moment. There is a narrow and fleeting window of opportunist before a watershed, , 9/11-level cyber attack to organise and effectively take bold action."
It was said that the US was vulnerable to being hacked and there was an urgent need to upgrade computer systems. The US is also in the midst of a probe to expose the alleged Russian hacking interference in the 2016 Presidential election. It was alleged that Russian President Vladimir Putin had worked with Republican Party to defeat Democrat, Hillary Clinton.
