US President Donald Trump has thanked India after a road in Hyderabad was renamed in his honour. Calling it an "unprecedented honour", Trump shared his appreciation on social media after the road near the US Consulate in Telangana's capital officially became Donald Trump Avenue.

The renaming took place as part of celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence and highlighted the growing partnership between India and the United States.

Trump Expresses Gratitude

On Friday (local time), Donald Trump shared a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, thanking India for the gesture.

"The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India - The first U.S. President to ever be honored in this way. Thank you!" Trump wrote.

The post quickly drew attention online, with many discussing the significance of naming a public road after a sitting or US President.

Road Near US Consulate Gets a New Name

The road, located next to the US Consulate in Hyderabad, was earlier known as US Consulate Road. On Tuesday, it was officially renamed Donald Trump Avenue.

The stretch is situated in one of Hyderabad's prominent business districts, close to the offices of several leading American technology companies, including Google, Amazon and Microsoft.

Officials said the renaming was part of a broader event celebrating the long-standing friendship between India and the United States.

Plaque Unveiled During 'Freedom 250' Celebrations

A commemorative plaque marking the new road name was unveiled during the Freedom 250 celebrations, organised to commemorate 250 years of American independence.

The ceremony was attended by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, US Consul General Lara Williams and several senior officials from the Telangana government.

The event focused on strengthening cooperation between India and the United States in areas such as trade, investment, technology and strategic partnerships.

Hyderabad's Growing Role in India-US Relations

Speaking at the event, US Ambassador Sergio Gor highlighted Hyderabad's growing importance in the India-US partnership.

He said the city has become a major centre for technology, aerospace and defence cooperation and represents the rapid growth in bilateral ties.

Gor also referred to the ongoing interim trade agreement and the proposed Mission India initiative, saying the partnership is expected to generate more than USD 20 billion in new investment in the United States.

He added that the growing relationship demonstrates that "America First does not mean America alone."

Telangana Reaffirms Strong Partnership

Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka described the relationship between the state and the United States as one built on deep cultural and economic ties.
In a post on X, he said he was pleased to unveil the plaque officially naming the road after President Donald Trump alongside US Ambassador Sergio Gor and Consul General Lara Williams.

He also appreciated the architectural design of the new US Consulate building, saying it reflects regional heritage while symbolising stronger cooperation between Telangana and the United States.
