Thailand School Bus Fire: Over 25 Students Feared Dead In Horrific Accident
In a tragic incident outside Bangkok, Thailand, a devastating fire on a school bus resulted in the loss of at least 10 children's lives. The bus, transporting 44 students and several teachers from Wat Khao Phaya School in Uthai Thani for a sightseeing excursion to Ayutthaya, met with a horrific accident. Reports indicate that the fire erupted following the bus's tyre explosion, leading to the vehicle colliding with a metal barrier and becoming completely engulfed in flames. This catastrophe unfolded around noon in Pathum Thani province, a northern suburb close to the capital.

Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungruengkit confirmed the incident, detailing how the bus was journeying from central Uthai Thani province to Ayutthaya. The sudden outbreak of fire caused chaos and panic, marking a dark day for the school and the families involved. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the fire's intensity and speed left little room for escape, painting a grim picture of the accident's aftermath.
Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed the difficulty in confirming the exact number of fatalities, as the investigation was still underway. However, he noted that based on the survivors' count, around 25 individuals are feared to have perished in the tragedy. Compounding the horror, the remains of several victims were trapped within the bus for hours due to the intense heat that made it unsafe for recovery teams to enter.
Social media platforms were awash with harrowing visuals of the bus engulfed in flames, with thick black smoke rising into the sky. These images underscore the severity of the accident and the urgent need for a thorough investigation into its causes. Although the ages and identities of the students were not immediately available, the impact of this tragedy on the community is profound and far-reaching.
According to a statement from a rescuer present at the scene to Minister Suriya, the likely cause of the fire was a tyre explosion that led to the bus scraping against a road barrier. This was further corroborated by the rescue group Hongsakul Khlong Luang 21, which shared on its Facebook page the distressing discovery of at least 10 bodies inside the bus. This incident has not only caused immense grief but also raised questions about the safety measures in place for school trips and the condition of the vehicles used for such purposes.
In light of this tragedy, the Thai government is likely to review and potentially tighten regulations surrounding school transportation to prevent such a catastrophic event from happening in the future. The loss of young lives in such a horrific manner is a call to action for ensuring the safety of children on school trips. As the community mourns, the focus now turns to supporting the survivors and the families of those who perished, while also seeking answers and accountability for the tragic events that unfolded.
