Thailand PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra Suspended Over Leaked Phone Call
Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has been suspended from office by the Constitutional Court as it examines allegations related to her handling of a recent diplomatic crisis with Cambodia. The suspension took effect on July 1 and will remain in place until the court delivers a final ruling.
The investigation stems from a territorial conflict in May that turned violent, resulting in the death of a Cambodian soldier. The controversy intensified following the leak of a private conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, during which she reportedly referred to him as "uncle" and labeled a Thai military commander as her "opponent."

These remarks sparked fierce criticism from conservative senators, who accused Paetongtarn of undermining the Thai military and compromising national interests. They argued that her behavior violated the ethical and constitutional standards required of ministers, particularly the mandate to maintain "evident integrity."
In a statement released Monday, the Constitutional Court confirmed the suspension was passed by a 7-2 majority vote, citing the seriousness of the charges and the need to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
This political development marks a turbulent moment in Thai politics, as the country grapples with both internal divisions and complex regional diplomacy.
