Telangana Student Praveen Kumar Gampa Shot Dead In US; Investigation Underway

Praveen Kumar Gampa, a 27-year-old student from Telangana, was shot dead in Wisconsin in what is suspected to be a robbery attempt. He had moved to the US in 2023 to pursue a master's degree in Data Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and was working part-time at a local store. The shooting took place near his residence, leaving his family devastated.

His father, Raghavulu, received a missed WhatsApp call from Praveen on the morning of the incident. When he tried to call back, a stranger answered and claimed to have found Praveen's phone. This unexpected response raised concerns, and soon after, the family was informed of his tragic death by Praveen's friends and US authorities.

Investigation and Growing Concerns Over Safety

The exact circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. Some reports suggest Praveen was attacked at a store, while others state that his body was found with bullet wounds near his home. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the cause and identify those responsible.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago has expressed condolences and assured Praveen's family of their full support. His university is also assisting the grieving family.

This tragedy follows a similar incident in December 2023, when 22-year-old Sai Teja, another student from Telangana, was shot dead at a petrol pump in Chicago. The increasing number of such incidents has raised concerns over the safety of Indian students in the US.
