Tech Consultant Nima Momeni Convicted of Second-Degree Murder in Bob Lee's Stabbing Death
A San Francisco jury has found tech consultant Nima Momeni guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App. The verdict was reached after seven days of deliberation. Lee, a well-known figure in the tech industry, was discovered on April 4, 2023, bleeding and seeking help on a deserted street. He later died in a hospital.

Prosecutors argued that Momeni planned the attack, driving Lee to an isolated area under the Bay Bridge. There, he stabbed Lee three times with a knife taken from his sister's kitchen. They claimed Momeni was upset with Lee for introducing his younger sister to a drug dealer who allegedly gave her drugs and sexually assaulted her.
Jury's Decision and Legal Proceedings
The jury received the case on December 4, after the trial began on October 14. Momeni faced charges of first-degree murder but was ultimately convicted of second-degree murder. This conviction carries a potential sentence of 16 years to life in prison. Momeni has been held in custody since his arrest in April 2023.
Momeni testified that Lee attacked him with a knife after he advised Lee to spend more time with his family instead of looking for a strip club. Momeni, who practices martial arts, claimed he acted in self-defence and did not realise he had fatally injured Lee or that Lee was hurt at all.
Background and Impact
Bob Lee was the creator of Cash App and served as the chief product officer at MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency company. At the time of his death, he had relocated to Miami from the San Francisco Bay Area, where his ex-wife Krista Lee resides with their two children.
The District Attorney's office, led by Brooke Jenkins, announced in 2023 that Momeni faced up to 26 years to life if convicted. The case has drawn significant attention due to Lee's prominence in the tech world and the circumstances surrounding his death.
The conviction marks a significant development in a case that has captivated public interest due to its high-profile nature and complex narrative involving personal relationships and alleged drug use.
