Charged Suspect in Virginia Sheriff's Deputy Shooting Dies

Timothy Wayne Goodman, 65, from North Carolina, passed away early Friday at Johnson City Medical Centre in Tennessee. Goodman was charged with the fatal shooting of Smyth County Deputy Hunter Reedy and the wounding of another deputy on August 9. This information was confirmed by Smyth County Commonwealth's Attorney Phillip Blevins in a news release.

Suspect in Deputy Shooting Dies

Goodman faced charges of aggravated murder for Deputy Reedy's death and four counts of attempted murder. He was also charged with using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The other wounded deputy was released from the hospital a day after the incident and is now recovering at home.

Virginia State Police reported that Goodman had a confrontation with Marion officers and deputies before the shooting took place. Deputy Reedy, 28, attended high school in Chilhowie and served as a police officer there before joining the sheriff's department. He was married and had three children. His funeral took place on Saturday at a church in Chilhowie, where Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears and Attorney General Jason Miyares spoke.
