During the initial phase of the global sushi boom, the handling of raw fish was not necessarily perfect.

To address this situation, Japanese sushi experts are sent around the world to teach the correct treatment of raw fish, ensuring the preservation of traditional sushi cooking methods.

Japan: Global Sushi Championship

The World Sushi Cup, a competition aimed at preserving authentic sushi culture through international sushi chefs, was participated in by fifteen chefs from various regions and countries this year. The competition's purpose is to enhance the skills of sushi chefs globally and promote Japanese sushi culture, reported ANI.

Satsuki Katayama, a Member of the House of Councillors, expressed, "Including Sushi, Japanese food becomes the United Nations' heritage. Through the charm of Sushi food, we would like to reinforce our friendship with various countries because when eating good food, everybody is happy, friendly."

The event featured 15 finalists from 8 countries, and judges assigned points based on the creative sushi presented by each finalist. Normal sushi cooking and decorative sushi creation for each finalist were assessed in the World Sushi Cup. Creative sushi reflected the image of each finalist and their country's culture, as per ANI report.

In the long history of the Sushi Cup, a Belgian sushi chef presented cacao-tasting sushi. The spread of Japanese sushi culture has accelerated the export of Norwegian salmon, strengthening ties between Japan and Norway. A Norwegian person was nominated as one of the judges.

Johan Khabheim, a member of the Norwegian Embassy, said, "Sushi is getting more and more popular, especially among young people; it's trendy, healthy, and convenient. The Japanese image of it is very important. Also, in Norway, a Portuguese chef won the World Championship event this time," as reported by ANI.

Portugal Winner, Jefferson Eliasribeiro Da Silva, said, "I tried to make sushi like my teacher, but I couldn't do it well. I also want to apply Japanese skills to my country and improve my sushi skills. I want to get closer to that skill."

"As a global meal, I am confident that Sushi will raise the cooker's sanitary treatment and taste. We look forward to your success in the future. The history of the World Sushi Cup proves how the real global sushi boom elevates sushi skill and creates a fusion of country's meal cultures," stated Kentaro Hara, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
