Sri Lanka bourse hit by power outage
Colombo, Mar 16: The trading at Colombo Stock Exchange was halted briefly today due to the ongoing electricity crisis in Sri Lanka which suffered the worst blackout in 20 years after failure of its coal power plant.
The trading came to a halt between 9.57 am and 10.15 am as the generators failed to activate at the World Trade Centre building here where the CSE is located.
The generators were back in operation later when the trading resumed. The country is experiencing 7.5 hour power cuts today and tomorrow due to the failure in the major coal fired power plant.
On Sunday, the whole country was in darkness for over 6 hours, the worst since 1996.
