Sri Lanka: 3 killed, 150 feared trapped in mudslide

, Oct 29: Three persons were killed while 150 were fear trapped after a mudslide trigger by rain buried houses of several estate workers at Meeribedda tea estate in Badulla district, about 218 kilometres from here.

Sharath Lal Kumara, a Disaster Management Center (DMC) official, said, according to an Associated Press report. A major area was covered by earth, Kumara said.

Army personnel were deployed to help in the rescue operations.

Heavy rain lashed Sri Lanka over the past few weeks and the DMC warned about mudslides and falling rocks. The country's current monsoon season will continue till December.
