Singapore Chinese Cab Driver Abuses Woman, Daughter Assuming Them To Be Indian

In a purported video shared on an Instagram handle by 'Wake Up Singapore', a cab driver, probably Chinese, could be seen abusing a woman and her 9-year-old daughter during a ride presuming they were of Indian origin.

"You are Indian, you are stupid," the driver allegedly told 46-year-old Janelle Hoeden and her daughter as he assumed that they were from India. However, the woman was allegedly of Eurasian origin.

The reported incident took place on 23rd September when she booked a cab ride with TADA, a ride-hailing platform at about 2 pm. The driver got upset because he thought she had given a wrong address to him.

While the woman was speaking to her daughter, the driver allegedly started shouting.

Reportedly, Janelle said, "He started shouting at me, saying that I gave him the wrong address and wrong directions"

As and when the interaction heated up, the woman started recording the entire incident on her phone and updated it on her Facebook page later.

As per a media report, the video shows the driver, apparently a Chinese man, was seen accusing the 9-year-old daughter of being shorter in height (precisely, less than 1.35 meters). This is not all, even when the mother argued that her daughter was 1.37 meters; apparently, the cab driver kept on saying that she was under 1.35 meters and later on went on to say that her child was "very illegal".

As per popular belief, a child's height is essential for the safety of passengers requiring children's seats. As per the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Singapore, all vehicles in Singapore must have booster seats or child restraints for passengers under 1.35 meters in height.

Reportedly, the cab driver shouted at her while he was still driving, "You are Indian, I am Chinese... You are the very worst kind" Hoeden even tried correcting the driver and said, "I am Singapore Eurasian, not Indian"

The Singapore broadsheet quoted Hoeden saying, "As he was verbally abusive, I was afraid that he would start getting physical with me, so I told her to record... Whether I was tanned skin, or Indian, or otherwise, it's unacceptable what he said - it was totally uncalled for that he pulled out the race card"

Hoeden said that her child was also shaken after the incident.
