Shubhanshu Shukla's First Message From International Space Station

Shubhanshu Shukla, a 39-year-old Group Captain from Lucknow, has made history by becoming the first Indian astronaut to reach the International Space Station (ISS). He expressed his excitement and gratitude upon arrival, stating that he felt privileged to witness Earth from such a unique perspective. Shukla is the second Indian to venture into space, following Rakesh Sharma's journey in 1984.

The Axiom-4 mission, led by veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson as commander, successfully docked its Dragon spacecraft at the ISS after a 28-hour journey around Earth. Shukla, serving as the mission pilot, was welcomed aboard with an astronaut pin presented by Whitson. During the formal ceremony, he shared his enthusiasm for being part of this historic mission.

Upon entering the ISS with three other astronauts, Shukla expressed how welcomed he felt by the crew. "The minute I entered the International Space Station and met this crew, you just made me feel so welcome," he said. He emphasized how seeing Earth from space surpassed all his expectations and was a significant part of his experience.

Shukla is set to spend 14 days on the ISS conducting research on microgravity. He described this opportunity as "fantastic" and expressed confidence that these two weeks would be productive in advancing science and research. His role as a test pilot with the Indian Air Force has prepared him for this remarkable journey.

"I am astronaut 634. It is a privilege to be here," Shukla stated during his welcome speech on the space station. He acknowledged the rare chance to view Earth from space and looked forward to collaborating with his fellow astronauts in scientific endeavors.

The Axiom-4 mission marks a significant milestone for India in space exploration.
