Sheikh Hasina's First Reaction After Bangladesh Ouster: Ex PM Says Her Father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Insulted
Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has broken her silence since fleeing the country. In a statement issued on Tuesday, she described the coup against her Awami League government as a severe affront to her father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and countless martyrs who gave their lives for Bangladeshp>
"The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rah, under whose leadership we have gained self-esteem as an independent nation, got self-identity and got an independent country, has been grossly insulted," Hasina said in the statement issued through her son Sajeeb Wazed.

Call for National Mourning
Hasina also called on Bangladeshi citizens to observe National Mourning Day on August 15. This day marks the assassination anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. "I appeal to you to observe the National Mourning Day on 15th August with due dignity and solemnity. Pray for the salvation of all souls by offering floral garlands and praying at Bangabandhu Bhavan," she urged.
The former Prime Minister expressed deep concern over ongoing violence in Bangladesh. She highlighted that students, teachers, policemen, journalists, cultural workers, and innocent bystanders have lost their lives due to terrorism and violence. "I offer my deepest condolences to those who, like me, are living with the pain of losing loved ones," she added.
Condemnation of Violence
Sheikh Hasina condemned the forces behind her ouster as Prime Minister. "They insulted the blood of millions of martyrs. I want justice from the countrymen," she stated emphatically.
The statement was released through her son Sajeeb Wazed and reflects Hasina's strong feelings about recent events in Bangladesh. Her words resonate deeply with those who have suffered losses due to ongoing conflicts in the country.
Hasina's call for justice and national mourning underscores her commitment to honouring her father's legacy and remembering those who sacrificed their lives for Bangladesh's independence.
The former Prime Minister's message is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by many for Bangladesh's freedom. It also highlights the ongoing struggles faced by its citizens amidst political turmoil and violence.
Her appeal aims to unite Bangladeshi nationals in commemorating their shared history and paying tribute to those who fought for their nation's independence.
