Putin Acknowledges Difficulty in Setting Ukraine War Timeline While Supporting Modi's BRICS Perspective

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently stated that predicting the end of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is challenging. However, he expressed confidence in Russia's eventual victory. He acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's concern about the situation. Putin also endorsed Modi's view of BRICS as a non-western rather than an anti-western group, ahead of the 16th BRICS Summit.

Putin Discusses Ukraine War and BRICS

During a meeting with senior editors from BRICS nations at his residence near Moscow, Putin mentioned the possibility of discussing Indian cinema with Modi. The Russian leader referred to Modi as a "friend" and appreciated India's concern over the conflict. Modi had previously advocated for a peaceful resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war during a phone call with Putin on August 27.

BRICS Expansion and Economic Influence

BRICS, initially comprising five countries, has expanded to include Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE. This group now represents 24% of global GDP and 41% of the world's population. Putin emphasized that BRICS is not against any nation but serves as an economic counterbalance to Western influence. He stated that even non-member countries could benefit economically from its growth.

Putin criticized the US and NATO for their roles in escalating tensions with Russia. He accused them of pushing Russia into war and claimed that NATO professionals are involved in Ukraine's military operations. "NATO is waging a war against us," he remarked, asserting that Russia's military has become highly effective and technologically advanced.

India's Role and Cultural Exchange

Putin highlighted India's potential role in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. He expressed gratitude for Modi's concern and mentioned India's involvement in discussions with China and Brazil to resolve the conflict. Additionally, he noted the popularity of Indian films in Russia and suggested further promoting them during his upcoming meeting with Modi.

The Russian leader also touched upon India's pharmaceutical and automotive sectors, acknowledging New Delhi's protective measures for its industries. He expressed optimism about finding common ground to enhance Indian film distribution in Russia if there is mutual interest.

Global Tensions and BRICS Currency

Addressing global issues, Putin accused the US of attempting to hinder China's development, likening it to stopping the sun from rising. He criticized US actions in various regions and their efforts to involve NATO in Asia. Regarding a common BRICS currency, Putin stated that progress is slow but cautious.

Putin voiced concern over the situation in Gaza and mentioned inviting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to BRICS events. He reiterated that BRICS remains open to new members as it continues to evolve.

The Russian leader concluded by emphasizing BRICS' unique position as a non-confrontational group aimed at fostering economic cooperation among diverse nations. His remarks underscored the importance of dialogue and collaboration within this expanding alliance.
