Setback for Trump as Republicans pull bill to replace Obamacare

Several reports suggested that at least 28 and 35 Republicans were opposed to his draft American Health Care Act.

It was another failure for US President Donald Trump. The Republicans were unable to pass a bill to replace Obamacare as they lacked sufficient support. House Speaker Paul Ryan said that he and Trump agreed to pull the vote after it was evident that they would not get the minimum support of 215 Republican votes that were needed.

For Trump, the loss is personal since repealing Obamacare was one of his major election promises. Ryan went ahead and said that he would not sugar coat this. It is disappointing he said.

Several reports suggested that at least 28 and 35 Republicans were opposed to his draft American Health Care Act. The vote however had to be withdrawn due to lack of support. Trump had warned Republicans that if they did not vote for his bill then would be stuck with Obamacare.

"We had no Democrat support. We had no votes from the Democrats. They weren't going to give us a single vote, so it's a very very difficult thing to do," Trump said.
