'Serious Consequences': Israel Responds After Iran Launches 200 Missiles

Israel today issued a stern warning to Iran after successfully defending against a massive missile barrage. Iran launched over 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation for the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

As missiles flew over Israeli cities, the military instructed citizens to take shelter while the air defense system intercepted the threats. Following the attack, Israel declared that Iran's actions would face repercussions.

Serious Consequences Israel Responds After Iran Launches 200 Missiles

"We are on heightened alert both defensively and offensively. We will protect the citizens of Israel. This missile fire will have consequences. We have plans, and we will act at a time and place of our choosing," said Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari in a video statement.

Hagari confirmed there were no reported casualties from the missile barrage but noted a few strikes hit central and southern Israel.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had already issued a warning to Iran, which supports Hezbollah and Hamas. "There is nowhere in the Middle East Israel cannot reach," Netanyahu said, shortly after an airstrike south of Beirut killed the leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah group, backed by Tehran.

U.S. President Joe Biden also responded, stating that the United States is ready to assist Israel in defending itself from Iranian missile attacks. "We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks and protect American personnel in the region," Biden posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Israel-Hezbollah Conflict
Iran's missile strike followed the killing of former Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah by Israeli forces last week. Nasrallah had been hiding in a bunker beneath a busy Beirut suburb.

Israel has vowed to increase pressure on Hezbollah until it ceases attacks, which have displaced tens of thousands of Israelis from communities near the Lebanese border. The conflict has also caused more than 200,000 Lebanese civilians to flee in the past week, according to the United Nations.

Despite international calls for de-escalation, Israel has committed to continuing its strikes and has declared parts of its border with Lebanon a military zone.
