School Shooting In Austria's Graz City Kills 10

A tragic school shooting in Austria has reportedly claimed the lives of 10 individuals, including nine students and one adult.

Among the deceased is the suspected shooter, who is believed to have taken his own life following the incident.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday at the BORG Dreierschützengasse school in the city of Graz.

According to the Austrian Press Agency, citing Mayor Elke Kahr (KPÖ), 10 people were killed in the attack.

Several of the victims were students, and one adult - likely a teacher - was also among those who lost their lives.

The perpetrator, reportedly a student at the school, died by suicide, with state broadcaster ORF stating he was found dead in a school toilet.

Officials shocked

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger expressed profound sorrow in a post on BlueSky: "The news of the shooting rampage in #Graz shocks me deeply. It's incomprehensible and unbearable. My sympathy and grief go out to the victims and their families. No one can imagine the suffering; as a mother of three children, it breaks my heart."

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas also reacted with dismay, stating on X, "Every child should feel safe at school and be able to learn free from fear and violence."
"My thoughts are with the victims, their families and the Austrian people in this dark moment," she added.

School evacuated and emergency measures enacted

In the aftermath of the shooting, the school was evacuated. Pupils were escorted to the nearby Helmut List Hall, where they received medical and psychological support from Red Cross teams.

Police swiftly cordoned off the area, halting public transport and urging people to avoid the vicinity and stay indoors.

Reports indicate that the gunfire began around 10 a.m., prompting immediate lockdown procedures and emergency responses.
