Discover How RIT-Dubais Eco Sync App is Revolutionizing Organic Waste Management
Students from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai have been lauded for their contribution to sustainability with the development of the 'Eco Sync' app. This innovative platform designed for organic waste management emerged victorious in the UAE Youth Green Challenge, a competition facilitated by Schneider Electric and the Arab Youth Centre to advance industrial decarbonization. The app aims to convert organic waste into compost, demonstrating the power of youth innovation in driving environmental initiatives forward.
In a remarkable display of innovation and commitment to sustainability, Schneider Electric has recognized the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai) as the triumphant participants of the UAE Youth Green Challenge. This competition, born of a partnership with the Arab Youth Centre (AYC), is a testament to the determination of the UAE's youth to pioneer the decarbonization of the industrial sector through pioneering solutions. RIT-Dubai students, Hariharan Ramesh and Farkh Leka Hashimy, spearheaded the winning project which stood out for its ingenuity and promise. Their brainchild, the 'Eco Sync' app, is an interactive platform that focuses on organic waste management. This innovation was one of six to be shortlisted and was meticulously evaluated by a panel of experts on several critical criteria.
Empowering Youth Innovation
The 'Eco Sync' app is constructed on the principles of a circular economy, aiming to repurpose organic waste into valuable compost for various sectors, including retail, academia, healthcare, and eco-aware residents. The app's excellence was recognized across six key pillars: Innovation and Creativity, Environmental Impact, Feasibility and Scalability, Potential for Implementation, Communication and Presentation, and Interdisciplinary Collaboration. Sadeq Jarrar, Executive Director at the Arab Youth Center, praised the collaboration with Schneider Electric in the challenge, emphasizing the role of Arab youth as sustainability ambassadors. Jarrar expressed confidence that the initiative would continue to foster meaningful, future contributions from young leaders in sustainability, both locally and globally.

Driving Climate Action through Youth Engagement
Asli Cakir, Gulf Vice President of Human Resources at Schneider Electric, lauded the UAE Youth Green Challenge for showcasing the immense potential of young minds in propelling sustainability and climate change initiatives. The collaboration with the Arab Youth Center is aimed at turning youth commitment into tangible outcomes. The AI-integrated 'Eco Sync' app, according to Cakir, exemplifies how innovative waste management solutions can significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, by more than 4 percent. Schneider Electric's engagement extends beyond just this challenge; they are also a part of the Arab Technology Fellowship for Arab Youth. This regional initiative is designed to help Arab youth close the skills gap prevalent in various technological disciplines, including ICT, digital transformation, innovation, and emerging interactive technologies.
Conclusion
The achievements of RIT-Dubai in the UAE Youth Green Challenge signify a forward step in the advancement of eco-friendly technology and the empowerment of young talent in the UAE. The collaboration between Schneider Electric and the Arab Youth Centre is not only inspiring the next generation of sustainability leaders but also actively contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions within the industrial sector. As the nation continues to prioritize environmental stewardship, it is clear that the ingenuity and passion of its youth will play a pivotal role in shaping a greener future for the UAE and beyond.
