Saudi woman punished with 70 lashes for insulting man on WhatsApp
Riyadh, March 18: A 32-year old woman has been sentenced to 70 lashes by a court in Saudi Arabia for insulting a man on insant messaging app WhatsApp. According to Okaz Newspaper, the woman was guilty of tarnishing the reputation of the man on WhatsApp.
The woman, whose nationality was not revealed, was fined 20,000 Saudi Riyal and handed down 70 lashes by the court for the crime she committed. Under the Saudi Anti-Cyber Crime Law, a person who commits, defames or insults a person through any means of information technology devices,"shall be subject to imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year and a fine not exceeding SR 500,000 or to either punishment."

In a similar incident in the Red City of Jeddah, two women were subjected to 10 days in police custody and 20 lashes for insulting each other on WhatsApp.
