Russian Missile Strikes At Children's Hospital

The Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv was severely damaged. Rescuers searched for survivors under the rubble of a partially collapsed wing, as reported by AP. Medical personnel and volunteers worked together to clear debris and find trapped individuals. Smoke continued to rise from the building as emergency crews operated in protective masks.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that at least 20 people were killed and around 50 injured across Ukraine due to the morning attacks. In Kryvyi Rih alone, 31 people were injured in addition to the ten fatalities.

Russia Attacks Ukraine

The Ukrainian air force noted that the daylight attacks included Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, which are among Russia's most advanced weapons. These missiles travel at ten times the speed of sound, making them difficult to intercept. The blasts caused significant shaking of city buildings.

Local officials in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region also reported explosions. Thick smoke plumes were visible in several Kyiv neighborhoods due to falling debris from intercepted missiles, which started fires.

NATO Summit Context

This attack occurred just before a three-day NATO summit in Washington. The summit aims to reassure Ukraine of NATO's unwavering support amid Europe's largest conflict since World War II. President Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of global awareness regarding Russia's actions.

"It is very important that the world should not be silent about it now and that everyone should see what Russia is and what it is doing," Zelenskyy stated on social media.

Ukraine's Response Over Missile Attack

The head of Ukraine's presidential office, Andrii Yermak, mentioned that many people were on the streets during the attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said assessments of the attack's consequences were ongoing. Volunteers formed lines to pass stones and debris while searching for children and medical workers who might be trapped underneath, as reported by Hind

This was Kyiv's heaviest bombardment in nearly four months. An entire section of a residential multistory building was destroyed in one district of Kyiv. The city administration reported falling debris starting fires in several areas.

The missile barrage highlights the ongoing severity of the conflict and its impact on civilians and infrastructure across Ukraine.
