Russian doctor punches patient dead after misbehaving with nurse

Belgorod, Jan 11: In a bizarre incident in Russia, a doctor punches a patient in the head after he reportedly misbehaved with a nurse. CCTV footage from the city of Belgorod got the media talking about the doctor when he was shown knocking a patient down on the floor and killing him instantly.

Nicknamed "The Boxer Doctor", the doctor raises questions over a cover-up culture in Russia with investigators announcing a probe only when the video emerged. In the video, the strongly-built doctor is seen dragging the barechested paient and shouting at him "why did you touch the nurse?" and pushing him off the door.

When the doctor engages with another man accompanying the patient, the latter comes back which is when the doctor punches him hard on the face and the man falls backwards on the floor.

Only minutes later did the medics realise that the man is lying motionless and make a failed attempt to revive him. Belgorod's investigative committee said that the incident happened on Dec 29. The investigators said that the doctor hit the patient only when he kicked a nurse during a procedure. They further added,"The cause of death of the victim was trauma to the skull and brain from hitting the back of the head on the hard surface of the floor."

The doctor has been fired from his job but remains free after signing a declaration that he will not travel during the investigation.
