While there has been no immediate acknowledgement from the UAE, the country has maintained close business ties with Moscow throughout Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Human Rights Ombudsman, highlighted that this was the 49th prisoner exchange during the conflict. Notably, some of the released Ukrainians had been held captive since 2022, including those who fought in crucial battles for Snake Island and the city of Mariupol.

Russian Missile Strikes and Belgorod's Situation

Amidst the prisoner exchange, Russia reported shooting down 12 missiles targeting one of its southern regions bordering Ukraine. Power Outage in Zeleznogorsk

In another Russian border region, the city of Zeleznogorsk experienced a brief power outage after Ukrainian shelling. Local authorities temporarily shut down an electricity substation to repair damage caused by an aerial attack, leaving residents without power or heat. However, electricity was restored in most of the city within a few hours.

NATO's Support and Ukraine's Defence Industry

As Russia intensifies its long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities, Kyiv has appealed to its Western allies for further air defence support. In response, NATO announced plans to assist member nations in purchasing up to 1,000 surface-to-air Patriot guided missiles, potentially worth around USD 5.5 billion. This move could enable alliance members to provide more of their own defence systems to Ukraine.
