Three people were killed by a lone gunman in the Dutch city of Rotterdam. Among the victims is a 14-year-old girl and a teacher at the Erasmus Medical Centre.
In a shocking incident in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, three people were killed by a lone gunman. The fatal shooting spree took place on Thursday at an apartment and the Erasmus Medical Centre, causing panic and chaos amongst patients and medical staff.
Details of the Incident

The perpetrator was reported to be wearing a bulletproof vest when he opened fire. Among those tragically killed was a 14-year-old girl. The brutal act resulted in patients and medics fleeing from the hospital premises; some were even wheeled out in their beds due to the sudden outbreak of violence. In a bid to indicate their whereabouts amidst the pandemonium, others barricaded themselves into rooms, sticking hand-written signs on windows.
Police Investigation
Rotterdam Police Chief Fred Westerbeke disclosed details about the shooter during his interaction with reporters. According to him, the suspect is a 32-year-old student hailing from Rotterdam itself who was apprehended at the hospital while still carrying his firearm. However, his identity has not been released as yet and investigations are ongoing regarding possible motives behind this gruesome act.
The Victims
Westerbeke further revealed that prior to targeting individuals at Erasmus Medical Centre, this armed assailant first attacked an apartment near his residence where he shot dead a 39-year-old woman and grievously injured her 14-year-old daughter who later succumbed to her injuries. Following this ruthless home assault, he proceeded towards Erasmus Medical Centre where he gunned down another victim -a 46-year-old man who served as an academic teacher within its premises.
Fires Set At Crime Scenes
Apart from these cold-blooded shootings which have sent shockwaves across Rotterdam community and beyond, it has also come to light that the shooter set fires at both crime scenes -the apartment and the hospital, adding to the overall terror and destruction.
Victim's Identities Withheld
The identities of all three victims are yet to be disclosed. As per police protocol, this information is generally withheld until next of kin have been notified about their tragic loss. The local community is in shock over these violent acts which have abruptly taken away innocent lives from amongst them.
In conclusion, this horrifying incident has once again raised questions about public safety and gun control measures. While investigations are still underway regarding the motives behind such a gruesome act by a student from Rotterdam itself, it serves as an urgent reminder that violence can erupt anywhere and affect anyone. One can only hope that justice will be served swiftly for those affected by this tragedy.
