In a significant development, the Israeli government has appointed Reuven Azar as the new Ambassador to India. Azar's appointment was approved on Sunday, December 18, and he will concurrently serve as the non-resident Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Bhutan, as confirmed by a statement from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A Seasoned Diplomat with Extensive Experience
Azar brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in various diplomatic capacities throughout his career. He currently holds the position of Ambassador of Israel to Romania and has previously held key positions within the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Head of the Israel-US-China internal task force and Deputy National Security Advisor for Foreign Policy at the National Security Council.

Azar's diverse assignments have included serving as Head of the Economic and Trade Department at the Embassy of Israel in Cairo, Counsellor for Political Affairs in Washington, DC, and Head of the Iran Sanctions Team and Director of Middle East Economic Research in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Personal Background and Education
Born in Argentina, Azar immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of 13. He served in a paratroopers battalion of the Israeli Defence Forces from 1985 to 1988 and continued as a reservist combat Sergeant until 2008. Azar holds a graduate and post-graduate degree in International Relations from the Hebrew University.
