Celebrated Alabama Artist Fred Nall Hollis Dies at Age 76

Hollis's career was marked by over 300 solo exhibitions worldwide, showcasing his work in the United States, France, and Italy. The Nature Art and Life League Art Association, a foundation he established, highlighted his global influence. He studied under Salvador Dali in the early 1970s.
Legacy and Achievements
In 2018, Hollis received Alabama's highest humanities honour when he was named the humanities fellow for the Alabama Humanities Alliance. He was inducted into the Alabama Center for the Arts Hall of Fame in 2016. His contributions to art were also recognised by Troy University with an honorary doctoral degree in 2001.
Hollis's works are permanently displayed at the NALL Museum in the International Arts Center at Troy University. His artistic legacy continues through these installations and his influence on contemporary art.
Final Days and Tributes
Pelham Pearce, executive director of the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope, Alabama, where Hollis resided, confirmed that Hollis entered hospice care last week and died on Saturday. The centre shared a tribute on Instagram: "The artist Nall once said that as his memories began to fade, his work brought him back to the eras and locations of his past. Today, the Eastern Shore, the state of Alabama, and all of the locations of his past say goodbye to a visionary."
Hollis operated the Nall Studio Museum in Fairhope until his death. His work was exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Menton Museum of Art in France and the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, Italy.
