Queen’s funeral: Elizabeth II’s coffin lowered into vault at Windsor
London, Sep 19: Queen Elizabeth II's coffin has been lowered into the royal vault at St George's Chapel, in Windsor Castle, at the conclusion of her committal service.
After an epic journey by road and air since she passed away peacefully aged 96 in Scotland on September 8, Queen Elizabeth II's coffin concluded its final journey to Windsor Castle for a Committal Service and private burial at St. George's Chapel on Monday evening.
The roughly 40-km route by road from Westminster Abbey in London, the site of a grand state funeral attended by thousands earlier in the day, to Windsor included the coffin processing by state gun carriage and then in the state hearse, a customised Jaguar, to the steps of the chapel.
The State funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II started at Westminster Abbey in London with the Royal family members and world leaders in attendance.
The final farewell to Britain's longest-serving monarch began as the long queue of people who had been lining up since early last week to file past the late monarch's coffin Lying-in-State at Westminster Hall came to a close early on Monday morning and preparations began for the coffin to be conveyed in procession to the Abbey.
President Droupadi Murmu, representing India at the state funeral, joined foreign dignitaries as they took their seats for the funeral service.
