Putin Proposes India, China, Brazil As Key Mediators In Ukraine Peace Talks
India, China and Brazil could act as mediators in potential peace talks over Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, Reuters reported.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that India, China, and Brazil could act as mediators in potential peace talks over the ongoing Ukraine conflict. He proposed using a preliminary agreement reached between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators during peace talks in Istanbul in 2022, which was never implemented, as a starting point for future discussions.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began in February 2022, has drawn global attention, with several countries calling for a peaceful resolution.
India, in particular, has consistently advocated for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict. In August 2023, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Ukraine, marking the first such visit by an Indian PM to the war-torn country.
During his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi reiterated India's position, emphasizing the importance of resolving the conflict through peaceful means. "India has always been on the side of peace," he stated, expressing India's readiness to actively contribute to the peace process.
Zelenskyy, in turn, voiced his belief in India's potential to play a significant role in bringing peace to the region. He noted that India, as a major global player, could exert influence on Russia and help halt the conflict. Zelenskyy said, "India can stop Putin and halt his economy."
Earlier in July, PM Modi also visited Russia, where he met with President Putin. During their discussions, PM Modi emphasized that solutions cannot be found on the battlefield and that peace talks are ineffective amid the violence of war. He urged for dialogue as the only viable path to a peaceful resolution, stating, "Amid bombs, guns, and bullets, solutions and peace talks do not succeed."
PM Modi further highlighted the humanitarian toll of the conflict, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives, particularly children, and called for an end to the suffering.
