Despite these obstacles, Musk entertained the idea of extending his role within the administration "indefinitely" on a part-time basis, should President Trump request his continued assistance.

As Musk concluded his term at DOGE, speculation arose regarding the department's future without its high-profile leader. Musk himself suggested that DOGE could "gain momentum" going forward, though he did not elaborate on how this might be achieved. President Trump, acknowledging Musk's contributions, credited him with enacting "a colossal change in the old ways of doing business in Washington." He further noted that some of Musk's team would remain within the administration, hinting at a lasting impact from Musk's tenure.
