Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Not Injured After Car Chase in NYC

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, accompanied by Meghan's mother, found themselves in a distressing incident described as a near catastrophic car chase in the United States.

The news of this incident was brought to light by their spokesperson who informed Reuters about the ordeal on Wednesday.

The incident took place after the couple attended an awards ceremony organized by the Ms. Foundation for Women in New York City, where Meghan was being recognized for her impactful work, as reported by Reuters.

The couple's office says the pair and Meghan's mother were followed for more than two hours by half a dozen vehicles after leaving a charity event in New York on Tuesday.

In a statement, the spokesperson stated, "Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were subjected to a near catastrophic car chase orchestrated by an aggressive group of paparazzi. This relentless pursuit lasted for over two hours and led to several close calls with other drivers, pedestrians, and even two officers from the New York Police Department (NYPD)."

In a statement, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed an incident took place and said that numerous photographers ''made their (Harry and Meghan's) transport challenging.'' ''The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests,'' it added.

The incident is said to have happened after the couple's first public appearance together since the King's Coronation earlier this month.

Pictures that have appeared on social media have shown Harry, Meghan and her mother Ragland in a taxi.

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as senior members of the royal family in 2020 and relocated to the United States, partly due to the intense media harassment they faced.

The prince has long spoken out about his anger about press intrusion which he blames for the death of his mother Princess Diana, who was killed when her limousine crashed as it sped away from chasing paparazzi in Paris in 1997.
