PM Modi Meets Canada FM Anita Anand, Highlights G7 Talks With Mark Carney

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand to boost bilateral ties. Their discussions focused on trade, security, and economic collaboration, laying the foundation for future cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently met with Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand in New Delhi. This meeting marks Anand's first visit to India since she took office in May. Modi expressed that her visit would invigorate the partnership between India and Canada, according to a government statement.

Anand shared on social media that the meeting aimed to enhance the bilateral relationship. She highlighted ongoing efforts in law enforcement, security dialogue, and economic expansion between the two nations. "I met with Prime Minister @narendramodi this morning in New Delhi. Building on the momentum of Prime Minister @MarkJCarney's meeting with PM Modi this summer at the G7 Summit, Canada and India are elevating the relationship between our countries, while maintaining our law enforcement and security dialogue and expanding our economic relationship," she posted.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

During their discussion, Modi recalled his productive meeting with Canadian counterpart Mark Carney at the G7 Summit in June. He emphasized the importance of increased cooperation in trade, energy, technology, agriculture, and people-to-people connections between India and Canada.

Anand arrived in New Delhi on Sunday as part of her three-nation tour that includes stops in China and Singapore. Earlier that day, she met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. They discussed strengthening ties to mitigate risks to the international economy and rebuild bilateral cooperation.

Focus on Economic Collaboration

The Canadian foreign minister is also scheduled to meet Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during her visit. Their discussions will focus on enhancing trade relations between India and Canada. This engagement aims to explore new avenues for boosting two-way trade ties.

Jaishankar stressed the need for both countries to deepen their collaboration across various sectors. He believes this will not only safeguard economic interests but also foster a robust partnership moving forward.

Anand's visit signifies a step towards reinforcing diplomatic relations between India and Canada. The meetings held during her trip are expected to lay the groundwork for future collaborations across multiple domains.
