Colombo, March 5: Sometimes, our obsession with ourselves puts the very us in trouble but there is little realisation still about the potential danger attached to it. A travel blogging couple from Portugal recently did something similar and was slammed on social media for their act only to get a click for a display on Instagram.

The incident happened in Sri Lanka. Raquel and Miguel from Portugal posted a daring photograph of them outside a moving train in the town of Ella in the island-nation on the social media site and the fans at once reacted, calling it "irresponsible".

There is something special with this 'selfie'; even celebs can't ignore it

The photograph got quite a bit of circulation since the traveller couple has a big following of 2 lakh people.

In the photo, Miguel is seen kissing the forehead of Raquel as she dangerously leans out of the train and just clutching on to its rails. In another click, Raquel is seen taking a support by just one hand while holding Miguel with the other as he takes the photograph.

Facing backlash over such daring act, the couple said the train was "moving super slow" and that they "respect everyone's opinions. But it's not risky". The Instangram post also received over 43k likes.

Yet, their defence looked unconvincing. For when the photo was taken, the train was moving over a bridge and a little slip could see Raquel falling into a deep ravine.

One of the fans reacted to the photo, saying: "You'd risk your life just for a picture? Just so you can upload it on social media? Or do you do this because this give you 'the rush'? How is this sensible?"

Another called it "insanely stupid stunt".

Some criticised Miguel for allowing Raquel to undertake the daring act to which she said that she did it herself.

A few months ago, an Indian traveller couple fell from the heights of Taft Point in California's Yosemite National Park in the US, and the tragedy had received quite an attention the world over.

Over 250 people across the world have died while taking selfies since 2011, a study that was published last year, said.
