Pope Francis Health Update: Diagnosed With Pneumonia, Head Of Catholic Churches Considering Successors
Diagnosed with pneumonia affecting both lungs, 88-year-old Pope Francis' health is deteriorating day by day, according to media reports. It was learned that Pope Francis has privately expressed concerns about his recovery. He also wants to hand over his legacy and considering potential successors.
The Vatican reported that the Pope had a restful night on Wednesday morning. "He had a tranquil night, woke up and had breakfast," stated the official communication. This comes amid ongoing treatment for asthmatic bronchitis alongside pneumonia.

Pneumonia and Bronchitis Complications
Pneumonia can severely impact breathing as it inflames and scars lung tissues. When both lungs are affected, the situation becomes critical due to reduced healthy lung capacity. The Pope's respiratory infection is complicated by a mix of viruses and bacteria, requiring cortisone and antibiotics.
Bronchitis, which can lead to pneumonia, involves inflammation of the air passages in the lungs. In Pope Francis's case, this condition escalated into bilateral pneumonia after a week-long struggle with bronchitis.
Medical Evaluations and Treatment
The pontiff's medical team has conducted various tests, including chest X-rays and lab evaluations. These assessments confirmed the onset of double pneumonia, necessitating more intensive care at Rome's Gemelli hospital.
Pope Francis's health history includes having part of his right lung removed during his youth. This past surgery adds complexity to his current health challenges as he battles these respiratory infections.
