PM Modi Meets Ukrainian President Zelensky In NY, Reaffirms Support For Peaceful Resolution
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reaffirming India's dedication to resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Modi emphasised India's commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region. The meeting took place in New York during the UN's Summit of the Future, marking their third interaction in three months.
In August, Modi visited Kyiv, where he met Zelenskyy, following their June meeting at the G7 summit in Italy. During their latest encounter, Modi reiterated India's support for a peaceful resolution through diplomacy and dialogue. He expressed India's readiness to assist in achieving a lasting peace.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations
Modi highlighted India's intention to implement outcomes from his recent visit to Ukraine. "Met President @ZelenskyyUa in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to strengthen bilateral relations," Modi stated on X. He also reaffirmed India's support for resolving the conflict and restoring peace.
Zelenskyy appreciated India's focus on the Ukraine conflict and thanked Modi for his efforts. "I am grateful for the clear support of our sovereignty and territorial integrity," Zelenskyy expressed on X. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted Zelenskyy's gratitude during a special briefing.
International Cooperation Focus
The leaders discussed enhancing cooperation on international platforms like the UN and G20. Zelenskyy mentioned their conversation focused on implementing the Peace Formula and preparing for a second Peace Summit. They explored opportunities for collaboration across various fields.
The Prime Minister's Office shared that both leaders reviewed bilateral ties and recent developments. They acknowledged positive momentum in their relationship and agreed to maintain close communication.
Diplomatic Engagements
Modi's visit to Ukraine last month was historic as it marked the first visit by an Indian prime minister since Ukraine's independence over three decades ago. Earlier, Modi addressed the UN's Summit of the Future amid global conflicts, including the Israel-Hamas war and the Ukraine crisis.
Before arriving in New York, Modi attended the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, where he held bilateral talks with US President Joe Biden. The meeting with Zelenskyy was requested by Ukraine, according to Misri.
The discussions between Modi and Zelenskyy underscored India's willingness to play a constructive role in resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. The meeting provided an opportunity to assess recent developments and strengthen bilateral ties further.
