PM Modi’s Strategic Visits To Poland And Ukraine: Key Objectives And What To Expect
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits to Ukraine and Poland mark historic milestones in India's diplomatic efforts. Strengthening economic ties and supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression underscore Modi's agenda. Modi's trip signals India's commitment to peace and stable international relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit and Ukraine starting Wednesday.
This marks his first trip to Ukraine since diplomatic ties were established 30 years ago. Modi, recently re-elected for a third term, is the first Indian to visit Poland in 45 years, following Morarji Desai.

The year 2024 commemorates the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. During his visit, Modi will meet Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. He will also engage with the Indian community in Poland, which numbers around 25,000, including 5,000 students.
Focus on Bilateral Relations
During his visit to Kyiv, Modi is expected to meet with President Zelensky to discuss bilateral relations and explore ways to deepen cooperation between India and Ukraine. The focus will likely be on strengthening economic ties, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Furthermore, Modi's visit holds symbolic significance as it demonstrates India's support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. The trip also underscores Modi's commitment to engaging with key global partners to address pressing geopolitical challenges and promote peace and stability in the region.
Key Discussions with Zelensky
During his time in Kyiv, Modi will hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The discussions are expected to cover various aspects of India-Ukraine relations such as agriculture, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, health and education, defence, and people-to-people connections.
Tanmaya Lal from the External Affairs Ministry stated that India is willing to support Ukraine's reconstruction efforts and seeks a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. "India continues to encourage a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy," Modi said during their meeting at the G7 summit in June, as per media reports.
Last month in Moscow, Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin. He urged Putin to return to dialogue and diplomacy to resolve conflicts. "No solution can be found on the battlefield," Modi emphasized during their discussion.
This visit underscores India's commitment to fostering strong international relationships while advocating for peace and cooperation amidst global conflicts.
