PM Modi Proposes To Host COP33 Summit In India In 2028

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the COP28 summit in UAE's Dubai, proposed to host the COP33 conference in India in 2028. In a bid to promote India's eco-friendly initiatives on a global stage, PM Modi announced a new environmentally conscious initiative, the "Green Credit" initiative. Emphasizing India's dedication to the UN Framework for Climate Change, he proposed hosting the COP33 Summit in India in 2028.

The ongoing 28th Edition of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is scheduled from November 30 to December 12. This summit will witness the participation of global leaders such as UK PM Rishi Sunak, US Vice President Kamala Harris, and King Charles III.

Speaking at the Ceremonial Opening of the summit, Prime Minister Modi said India's goal is to bring down the emissions intensity by 45 percent till 2030. Also, the nation is committed to increase its share of non-fossil fuel to 50 percent. "We will also keep going ahead towards our goal of net zero by 2070," he noted.

The COP28 summit will serve as a platform to reaffirm India's accomplishments within the G20 in environmental conservation, featuring discussions on climate finance, the Green Credit initiative, and LeadIT.

PM Modi arrived in Dubai last night marking his sixth visit to the United Arab Emirates. He was welcomed with the chants of 'Jai Shree Ram' overseas. According to the schedule shared by the ministry, the Prime Minister will also attend a high-level event co-hosted by India and the UAE.
