PM Modi and US President Biden Discuss Key Issues Ahead of Quad Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Joe Biden during the Quad summit in Wilmington, Delaware. They were expected to discuss various issues, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The meeting aimed to explore new avenues to enhance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. According to US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, the war and Modi's recent visit to Ukraine were likely key topics.

Modi and Biden Meet Before Quad Summit

Modi was warmly received by Biden at his residence, where they shared a hug. Biden then led Modi into his home. Modi's visit to the United States is part of a three-day trip, during which he will also meet Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. These meetings are part of the Quad Summit activities.

India-US Strategic Partnership

In a statement before his departure from New Delhi, Modi expressed that his meeting with Biden would focus on reviewing and identifying new ways to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. This partnership aims to benefit both nations' people and contribute positively to global affairs.

Modi was accompanied by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra. The US delegation included Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security Adviser T H Jake Sullivan, and US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti.

Quad Summit Initiatives

The annual Quad summit hosted by President Biden in Wilmington is expected to introduce several initiatives. These initiatives aim to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and seek peaceful resolutions for conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. The Quad, or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, promotes a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

Beijing views the Quad as an anti-China alliance. Following his time in Wilmington, Modi will travel to New York. There, he will attend an Indian community event on Long Island on September 22 and address the UN General Assembly's Summit of the Future the following day.

Modi expressed enthusiasm about engaging with the Indian diaspora and key American business leaders during his visit. He highlighted their role as vital stakeholders who add vibrancy to the unique partnership between India and the United States, representing the world's largest and oldest democracies.
