PM Modi Engages with US NSA Michael Waltz on Defence, Technology, and Security Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in discussions with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, focusing on defence, technology, and security. These topics are pivotal to the relationship between India and the United States. Modi expressed his satisfaction with the meeting through a post on X, stating, "Had a fruitful meeting with NSA @michaelgwaltz. He has always been a great friend of India."

Following his conversation with Waltz, Modi met with SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who was accompanied by his three young children at Blair House. Modi's visit to the US capital began on Wednesday evening for a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump. The session with Waltz marked the first engagement of his day.

India-US Cooperation in Emerging Sectors

Modi highlighted the potential for collaboration in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and space. He noted that these areas offer strong opportunities for cooperation between India and the United States. "Defence, technology and security are important aspects of India-USA ties and we had a wonderful discussion around these issues," he shared on X.

During the meeting with Waltz, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present. Their presence underscored the importance of these discussions in strengthening bilateral ties.

Engagements with Key US Officials

After arriving at Blair House, which serves as the President’s Guest House, Modi met with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He congratulated her on her recent confirmation and discussed various facets of the India-US friendship. Modi mentioned on X that Gabbard has consistently been a strong supporter of this partnership.

Gabbard had taken her oath as the 8th Director of National Intelligence just hours before her meeting with Modi. The ceremony took place in the presence of President Trump, marking a significant moment in her career.

The series of meetings during Modi's visit highlights the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation between India and the United States across multiple domains. These engagements reflect both nations' commitment to deepening their strategic partnership through dialogue and collaboration.
