PM Modi Engages with US NSA Michael Waltz on Defence, Technology, and Security Cooperation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his meeting with US National Security Advisor Michael Waltz as "fruitful," focusing on defence, technology, and security. These areas are crucial to India-US relations. Modi expressed his appreciation for Waltz's friendship with India in a post on X. He highlighted the potential for collaboration in sectors like AI, semiconductors, and space.

The Ministry of External Affairs noted that discussions aimed at deepening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The focus was on strategic technologies, defence industrial cooperation, and civil nuclear energy, particularly small modular reactors and counterterrorism. International and regional issues of mutual interest were also discussed.

Meeting with Elon Musk

Following his meeting with Waltz, Modi met SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at Blair House. Musk was accompanied by his three young children. Modi shared on X that they had a productive discussion on various topics, including space, mobility, technology, and innovation. He also mentioned India's efforts towards reform and promoting 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.'

Modi arrived in Washington DC on Wednesday evening for a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump. The meeting with Waltz was his first engagement of the day. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were present during this meeting.

Engagements with US Officials

After reaching Blair House, the President’s Guest House, Modi met US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He congratulated her on her confirmation and discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship. Modi noted that Gabbard has always been a strong supporter of this relationship.

Just hours before her meeting with Modi, Gabbard took the oath of office as the 8th Director of National Intelligence in the presence of President Trump.

The discussions between Modi and US officials underscore the importance of strengthening ties between India and the United States. By focusing on key areas such as strategic technologies and defence cooperation, both nations aim to enhance their partnership further.
