PM Modi Discusses Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation with Presidents of Brazil, Chile, and Argentina

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with the Presidents of Brazil, Chile, and Argentina on enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence, energy, biofuels, and agriculture. Modi arrived after a two-day visit to Nigeria and met Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during the G20 Summit. He praised Brazil's efforts during its G20 Presidency and discussed strengthening ties in various sectors.

PM Modi Meets Leaders from Brazil, Chile, Argentina

Modi's meeting with Brazilian President Lula focused on reviewing the full range of bilateral relations. They agreed to advance cooperation in areas like defence, agriculture, biofuels, and digital technology. "We took stock of the full range of bilateral ties between our nations and reaffirmed our commitment to improving cooperation in sectors like energy, biofuels, defence, agriculture and more," Modi stated on X.

Strengthening Ties with Chile

During the G20 Summit, Modi also met Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font. Their talks centred on deepening relations in pharmaceuticals, technology, space, and other sectors. Modi noted Ayurveda's growing popularity in Chile as a potential area for increased collaboration. President Boric highlighted discussions on the Trade Agreement negotiations and opportunities for public-private investment.

The leaders explored ways to expand cooperation in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, technology, IT, railways, mining, space, renewable energy, and defence. "PM @narendramodi held talks with President @GabrielBoric of Chile on the sidelines of G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro," stated the Prime Minister’s Office on X.

Engagement with Argentina

Modi's meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei marked their first encounter. They reviewed the Strategic Partnership between India and Argentina. "Had an outstanding meeting with President Javier Milei of Argentina. India cherishes the close friendship with Argentina," Modi posted on X. The discussion focused on enhancing ties in energy, defence production, trade, and culture.

The leaders agreed to deepen their relationship further in digital technology, pharmaceuticals, defence, space, energy, mineral resources, and railways. "PM @narendramodi and President @JMilei had a productive meeting in Rio de Janeiro," shared the Prime Minister’s Office on X.

Focus on Sustainable Development

Modi attended a session on ‘Sustainable Development and Energy Transition’ at the summit. He emphasised accelerating efforts for a cleaner future through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and Global Bio-Fuel Alliance. The session highlighted the role of DPI, AI & data-driven governance in achieving SDGs globally.

India's commitment to fostering a sustainable future was evident as Modi joined leaders from Italy, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Mexico, World Bank, IMF, WHO and WTO. "India brings world leaders together for harnessing technology to foster a sustainable future!" wrote MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X.

Following his engagements in Brazil, Modi is set to visit Guyana at President Mohamed Irfaan Ali's invitation. This will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over 50 years.
