PM Modi Makes Congratulatory Call To Putin, Re-Elected As Russian President

A telephone conversation was held today between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which President Putin extended congratulations on his re-election by PM Modi.

Best wishes for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the Russian people were conveyed by Modi, as reported by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

It was agreed by the two leaders to make concerted efforts towards further strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the years to come. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, it was stated by Prime Minister Modi that an agreement was reached to work together to further deepen and expand the India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership in the years ahead.

Progress in various issues of bilateral cooperation was reviewed by the two leaders, and views on regional and global issues of mutual interest were exchanged, as stated by the PMO. India's consistent position on the Ukraine-Russia war in favor of dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward was reiterated by PM Modi, according to the PMO.

A landslide victory in Russia's election was achieved by President Vladimir Putin, solidifying his already tight grip on power. The result indicated that the three other candidates who ran -- but had not openly challenged Putin -- received 4.31, 3.85, and 3.20 percent of the vote, respectively.

It was made clear by Putin that the result should send a message to the West that its leaders will have to reckon with an emboldened Russia, whether in war or in peace, for many more years to come.

"We have many tasks ahead. But when we are consolidated - no matter who wants to intimidate us, suppress us - nobody has ever succeeded in history, they have not succeeded now, and they will not succeed ever in the future," Putin stated in a victory speech in Moscow, as reported by Hindustan Times.
