Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the European nation in 45 years, following Morarji Desai's visit, on Wednesday evening.

The Prime Minister shared his enthusiasm about the visit on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Landed in Poland. Looking forward to the various programmes here. This visit will add momentum to the India-Poland friendship and benefit the people of our nations." In Poland, engagements scheduled for Modi include meetings with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda.

Interactions with members of the Indian diaspora, a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial of the Jam Saheb of Nawanagr, and visits to the monument of the Battle of Monte Cassino and the Kolhapur Memorial are also planned, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Prior to his departure, Modi described Poland as India's "key economic partner in Central Europe" and expressed anticipation for advancing the partnership. "Our mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism further reinforces our relationship. I look forward to meeting my friend Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda to further advance our partnership," Modi stated.

On Friday, Modi is set to make history again with his visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the war-torn country. This visit has been arranged at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The timing of this visit is significant as India has faced criticism from Western nations for its ongoing oil purchases from Russia and its stance of abstention from condemning Russia in United Nations resolutions, as per media reports.

The visit to Ukraine is expected to emphasize India's diplomatic balancing act amid the ongoing conflict and strengthen ties with both Poland and Ukraine.
