PM Modi Greets Zelenskyy With Hug, Pays Respect To Children Killed In Ukraine War | WATCH

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Volodymyr Zelensky today during his historic first visit to Ukraine, marking the first time an Indian prime minister has visited the country. The two leaders embraced and shook hands at the Martyrologist Exposition in Kyiv.

During the visit, PM Modi and President Zelensky are set to engage in both one-on-one and delegation-level talks, focusing on finding a negotiated settlement to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

PM Modi arrived in Kyiv from Poland aboard the 'Rail Force One' train, completing a 10-hour journey as part of the second and final leg of his two-nation trip.

His visit to Ukraine comes nearly six weeks after his high-profile trip to Russia, where he held extensive discussions with President Vladimir Putin, primarily aimed at ending the conflict.

The last meeting between PM Modi and President Zelensky took place in June on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Apulia, Italy. During that meeting, PM Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict, highlighting that the path to peace lies in "dialogue and diplomacy."

He also conveyed India's belief in a "human-centric" approach to resolving the crisis. President Zelensky extended an invitation to PM Modi to visit Kyiv during their discussion.

Earlier on Thursday, PM Modi met with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, where he expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, reiterating that "dialogue and diplomacy" are essential for restoring peace.

"This is India's firm belief that no problem can be solved on the battlefield. In any crisis, the loss of lives of innocent people has become the biggest challenge for the whole of humanity," PM Modi stated.
