PM Modi Advocates For Broad Technology Access At G7 Summit
In a significant address at the Outreach session of the G7 summit in Italy's Apulia region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a global effort to transform the monopoly in technology into widespread usage. This move, he argued, is essential for building an inclusive society and addressing social inequalities. Modi's speech underscored India's commitment to making Artificial Intelligence (AI) more transparent, fair, secure, accessible, and responsible in collaboration with international partners.

Modi highlighted India's energy strategy, which rests on four pillars: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. He pointed out the acute challenges faced by nations in the Global South, emphasizing India's role in voicing their priorities and concerns on the global stage. Notably, under India's G-20 chairmanship, the African Union was made a permanent member, reflecting India's dedication to supporting African countries' development and stability.
French President Emmanuel Macron lauded Modi's initiatives on AI and digital infrastructure during India's G20 presidency. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden recognized Brazil, Argentina, and India as pivotal partners in mineral sectors. Modi passionately spoke on ending the technological monopoly to ensure that technology benefits all societal segments, thereby enhancing human capabilities rather than constraining them.
The prime minister stressed that the 21st century is marked by technological advancements impacting every aspect of human life. While technology empowers humanity with achievements such as lunar exploration, it also presents challenges like cybersecurity. Modi proudly mentioned India's proactive approach in formulating a national AI strategy and launching an AI Mission based on the principle of "AI for All."
During last year's G-20 Summit hosted by India, the importance of international governance in AI was a key focus. Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to collaborating with all nations to ensure AI's ethical use. He also invited the global community to participate in the tree plantation campaign "Plant4Mother Ek Pedh Maa Ke Naam," initiated on World Environment Day as part of India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). This campaign aims to foster a mass movement with a personal touch towards global responsibility.
Modi expressed his satisfaction at attending the summit following his re-election, marking a significant moment in democratic history. His call for collective action towards a "Green Era" and achieving Net Zero by 2070 through initiatives like Mission LiFE showcases India's leadership in addressing global environmental challenges.
The prime minister's address at the G7 Outreach session reflects a comprehensive approach towards leveraging technology for societal benefit while emphasizing global cooperation in tackling environmental issues and promoting sustainable development.
