PM Modi Calls for Supporting Developing Countries with Climate Financing and Technology Transfer
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for supporting developing countries with adequate climate financing and technology transfer to enable them to deal with climate change.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Dubai on Thursday to attend the World Climate Action Summit, emphasizing the need for supporting developing countries with adequate climate financing and technology transfer to address climate change effectively. The summit, held under the presidency of the UAE, India's important partner in climate action, aims to create a better planet.

India's Commitment to Climate Action
In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted India's emphasis on climate action while pursuing social and economic development. During India's G20 presidency, climate was a top priority, resulting in the New Delhi Leaders Declaration, which includes concrete steps on climate action and sustainable development. Modi expressed his hope that the COP28 would build on the consensus achieved on these issues.
Participation in High-Level Events
PM Modi is scheduled to attend the World Climate Action Summit on Friday, along with several other world leaders, to discuss reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change. The summit serves as the high-level segment of the COP28. Additionally, the Prime Minister will participate in three other high-level side events.
Importance of Climate Financing and Technology Transfer
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of supporting the efforts of developing countries with adequate climate financing and technology transfer. Equitable access to carbon and development space is crucial for achieving sustainable development. India's achievements in renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, and Mission LiFE demonstrate its commitment to climate action.
Focus on Climate Justice and Adaptation
At the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South emphasized the need for climate action based on equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities. Adaptation, a key concern for developing countries, should also receive greater focus.
Bilateral Meetings on the Sidelines
During his stay in Dubai, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several leaders participating in the summit. These include Israeli President Isaac Herzog, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the newly-elected Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu.
PM Modi's participation in the World Climate Action Summit reflects India's commitment to addressing climate change and supporting developing countries in their efforts. The summit provides an opportunity to review progress under the Paris Agreement and chart a path for future climate action. By working together and prioritizing climate justice, the world can move towards a more sustainable and greener future.
