PM Modi Arrives in Nigeria to Strengthen Ties During First Three-Nation Visit in 17 Years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant three-nation tour, starting with Nigeria. This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Nigeria in 17 years. Upon arrival in Abuja, he was warmly received by Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Minister for Federal Capital Territory. Wike presented Modi with the Key to the City of Abuja, symbolising trust and honour from Nigeria's people.

PM Modi Begins Historic Visit to Nigeria

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared images of Modi's welcome in Nigeria. This trip is Modi's first to the West African region. His five-day journey includes stops in Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana. After Nigeria, he will proceed to Brazil to participate in the 19th G20 Summit as a Troika member.

Modi's Itinerary and Strategic Goals

In Brazil, Modi will join other global leaders like Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden at the summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19. India is part of the G20 Troika with Brazil and South Africa. This summit offers a platform for discussions on global economic issues.

Modi expressed his eagerness to meet the Indian community and friends in Nigeria who have sent him warm messages in Hindi. He views this visit as a chance to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Nigeria, based on shared democratic values and pluralism.

Historic Visit to Guyana

The final leg of Modi's trip will take him to Guyana from November 19 to 21, at President Mohamed Irfaan Ali's invitation. This visit is historic as it is the first by an Indian prime minister to Guyana in over 50 years. The visit aims to enhance bilateral ties between India and Guyana.

Modi's journey underscores India's commitment to strengthening relationships with these nations. The focus is on fostering cooperation in various sectors while reinforcing shared values and interests. This tour highlights India's diplomatic efforts on a global stage.
