PM Modi Airborne To Diplomatic Trip To Poland After 45 Years, Strengthening 70-Year Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a historic visit to Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years.
The visit, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Poland, is a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two nations, as reported by NDTV.

PM Modi's Diplomatic Trip To Poland
The last Indian Prime Minister to visit Poland was Morarji Desai in 1979. As he departed for Warsaw, PM Modi expressed the importance of this visit, stating, "This visit to Poland comes at a special time-when we are marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between our nations. India cherishes the deep-rooted friendship with Poland, further cemented by our shared commitment to democracy and pluralism."
During his two-day visit from August 21-22, PM Modi is scheduled to meet with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
The talks are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, with discussions likely to cover a broad spectrum of topics, including strategic partnerships, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges. The Prime Minister is also set to address the Indian community at an event in Warsaw, as per media reports.
European Parliament member Dariusz Jonski described the visit as "very important," underscoring the significance of the meeting for both nations. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the strong historical ties between India and Poland, noting Poland's crucial assistance to India during Operation Ganga in 2022, which facilitated the evacuation of over 4,000 Indian students from Ukraine.
This act of solidarity, along with Poland's historical refuge to over 6,000 Polish women and children in India during World War II, forms the cornerstone of the enduring friendship between the two nations. Following his visit to Poland, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Kyiv on August 23 to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for further talks.
