PM Modi Engages with US President Biden to Strengthen India-US Relations Ahead of Quad Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Joe Biden during the Quad summit. They discussed various topics, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The meeting took place at Biden's residence in Wilmington, Delaware. Both leaders aimed to explore new ways to enhance the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

Modi Meets Biden Before Quad Summit

The ongoing war and Modi's recent visit to Ukraine were significant topics in their discussions. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan highlighted these issues as central to the bilateral talks. Modi's visit to the United States is part of a three-day trip, during which he will also meet Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

India-US Strategic Partnership

Modi expressed his anticipation for the meeting with Biden, stating it would allow them to explore new avenues for deepening the India-US partnership. This collaboration aims to benefit both nations and contribute positively on a global scale. Modi was accompanied by key officials, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

The US delegation included Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser T H Jake Sullivan. Ambassador Eric Garcetti also participated in the discussions. The Quad summit, hosted by President Biden in Wilmington, aims to introduce initiatives that enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Quad Summit Initiatives

The Quad, comprising four member countries, promotes a free and inclusive Indo-Pacific region. However, China views it as an anti-China alliance. The summit is expected to address peaceful solutions for conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. From Wilmington, Modi will proceed to New York for further engagements.

Modi plans to attend an Indian community event on Long Island on September 22. He will also address the Summit of the Future at the UN General Assembly on September 23. Modi expressed enthusiasm about interacting with the Indian diaspora and American business leaders during his visit.

The Indian diaspora and American business leaders are seen as vital contributors to the unique partnership between India and the United States. Modi emphasized their role in strengthening ties between the world's largest and oldest democracies.
