Pluto Day 2023: Know more about dwarf planet
Pluto has five known moons: Charon, the largest, whose diameter is just over half that of Pluto; Styx; Nix; Kerberos; and Hydra.
Pluto Day 2023 is observed yearly on February 18 by space enthusiasts and scientists around the world. This day marks the anniversary of the discovery of Pluto by astronomer Clyde Tombaugh in 1930.

Pluto, largest known dwarf planet in the solar system was considered to be the ninth planet in our solar system until 2006, when the International Astronomical Union (IAU) reclassified it as a "dwarf planet."
This decision was based on a new definition of a planet that required it to clear its orbit of debris and other objects, which Pluto could not do.
Pluto has five known moons: Charon, the largest, whose diameter is just over half that of Pluto; Styx; Nix; Kerberos; and Hydra.
Despite its reclassification, Pluto remains a fascinating and important object of study for scientists. The New Horizons spacecraft, launched by NASA in 2006, conducted a flyby of Pluto in 2015, providing valuable new data and insights about this distant world.
Pluto Day is a chance to celebrate the discovery of this fascinating object and to learn more about the ongoing research and exploration of our solar system.
Pluto is in the Kuiper belt, a ring of bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune. It is made primarily of ice and rock and has only one sixth the mass of Earth's moon, and one third its volume. Pluto is the largest known trans-Neptunian object by volume, by a small margin, but is slightly less massive than Eris. Like other Kuiper belt objects, Pluto is made primarily of ice and rock and is much smaller than the inner planets. Pluto has only one sixth the mass of Earth's moon, and one third its volume.
