Plane Crash-Lands On Busy Highway, Hits Several Vehicles During Emergency Landing in Georgia, Watch

A small training aircraft made an emergency landing on a busy road in the US state of Georgia on Monday, crashing into multiple vehicles and leaving several people with minor injuries. The incident, captured on video and widely shared on social media, caused panic among commuters and led to major traffic disruptions in the area.

Police said the pilot was forced to land the single-engine plane on a street in Gainesville after the aircraft developed engine trouble and did not have enough power to return to the airport.

Emergency landing turns into crash

According to authorities, the aircraft was attempting to return to Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport after experiencing engine issues shortly after take-off. However, the pilot realised the plane would not be able to make it back safely.

With limited options available, the pilot carried out a forced landing on a busy roadway. Video footage circulating online shows the plane descending onto the street before colliding with several vehicles.

Police said that after touching down, the plane's right wing hit one of the vehicles. During the impact, the fuel tank became detached and struck the rear of an SUV. The aircraft eventually came to a halt after hitting multiple vehicles on the road.

Several people sustained minor injuries in the incident. Emergency services rushed to the scene and provided immediate assistance. Fortunately, no serious injuries or fatalities were reported.

Investigation underway, traffic disrupted

Authorities closed the road following the crash and advised residents to expect heavy traffic delays in the surrounding areas. The incident caused significant disruption during peak daytime hours.

Officials said the aircraft, identified as a Hawker Beechcraft BE-36, was on a training flight and heading towards Cherokee County Regional Airport in Canton before turning back due to engine trouble.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated that the pilot experienced engine problems shortly after departure and decided to return to Gainesville. When the aircraft could not reach the airport, the pilot chose to land on the roadway, where it struck three vehicles.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that it will investigate the incident to determine the exact cause of the engine failure and review the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing.

Authorities have praised the pilot's quick decision-making, noting that a forced landing on the road likely prevented a more serious accident. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
